After a 38 year military career, Mac and his family settled in Thetford, making it their home in 2014. He was successful in the by-election in 2022 and was re-elected the following year onto the same ward, he lives on Grenville Way.
Mac said, “Having lived and travelled the world I knew straight away that I wanted to be involved in the local community. Thetford has enriched my life having been lucky to meet some wonderful people in groups which I have been involved in, such as; the River Corridor Group, Thetford Society, Community Speed Watch, 100 Day Womble Litter Pick, Norwich Road Estate Residents Association (Deputy Chair & Gardens) and Safer Thetford Action Group (Chair) to name but a few”.
A champion of the towns historic military links, he was the driving force behind the granting of the freedom for RAF Honington in 2019, a link which he hopes to build on.
Proud of his service he still wears a RAF uniform 2 days a week in a reserve role and also works at the RAF Regiment Heritage Centre as Manager alongside a passionate volunteers team. He continues his RAF veteran responsibilities as Chair of a Regimental Association and is a committee member for the National Memorial Arboretum. In 2022 he was awarded an MBE for services to the RAF and community relations. Locally he is a keen supporter of the Armed Forces Breakfast Club.
His part time job is with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission in public engagement where he manages events and the volunteers in the east region.
He is excited to meet and support more of the fantastic people from across the town, whilst also collaborating with all other Councillors to help Thetford reach its potential.
His mantra is “I love this town and If we are all positive in thought word and deed, Thetford will benefit”
