Thetford Goes Wild for new event

A brand new event is coming to Thetford Town Centre on Friday 16th August, bringing together a wide variety of different groups to provide free fun and activities for all ages, whilst giving people the chance to find out much more about local wildlife – and discover how we can all tackle plastic waste.

Thetford Goes Wild celebrates the nature and green spaces of the town and its surroundings, in the beautiful setting of the King’s House gardens.  Groups including Norfolk Wildlife Trust, Friends of Thetford Forest and Natural England are all taking part.  There will birdbox making, minibeast hunts and nature crafts, with the chance to chat to experts about local plants and animals and their habitats, and see how Thetford could become a shining example of a plastic-free community.

“This is an exciting new event which will bring together many of the groups who are working locally to improve our local environment – I think people will be really surprised how much is going on in and around Thetford when it comes to conserving our fantastic wildlife” said Mayor Brenda Canham, who is also Chair of the Town Council’s Amenities, Land and Property Committee.  “We will also be using this event to showcase the variety of new projects we have planned for our own land, such as the cemetery’s new wildflower meadows, to create and enhance the sites for our threatened wild species” she added.

The event takes place in the King’s House Gardens, King Street, Thetford, IP24 2AP (close to all town centre parking) from 11am to 2pm on Friday 16th August.  Entrance is free and all are welcome.
