    Thetford 18-18 Knit a Poppy Project 2018

2018 is the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War 1 and Thetford Town is planning some town wide events to commemorate this culminating in the participation of the Nations Tribute Event on November 11th 2018.

A really important part of this is the production of thousands of knitted or crocheted poppies to decorate our buildings and structures in the town centre. A flowing river of poppies will wash down the Guildhall clock tower to meet with the giant poppy on the Royal British Legion building as the backdrop to the Nations Tribute Torchlit Ceremony. The more poppies we receive the more displays we can produce, so if you have any ideas please tell us!

Ancient House Museums Knitter Natter group welcome people to join them as they start to produce poppies for this project , don’t worry if you cant knit they will teach you and there is cake! their next meeting is 22nd March at Ancient House Museum so pop along and join them.

There will also be poppies and cake mornings and afternoons around the town and we will update times and venues as we get them. If you want to host an event please contact us and we will help you as much as we can.

There are several Poppy patterns are available to download on the internet   or in hard copy from Kings House, and The Carnegie.

All poppies to be delivered to Kings House or the Carnegie please, and if you would like to help attach the poppies on the nets please let us know.

Several businesses around the town have plans for displays which we will report on and hope to produce a publication and exhibition of all the displays and people involved in this project for Heritage open Days and A Nations Tribute events
