PRESS RELEASE
Residents invited to help shape the future of Thetford’s Rivers
Thetford’s rivers are at the heart of the town, but are we making the most of them? Should local people and public bodies be doing more to look after these vital assets for residents, visitors and wildlife? These were the questions that were answered in the Little Ouse Water Space Study that was commissioned in 2016.  This visionary document was full of practical ideas for the long-term regeneration of the river corridor in the Thetford area. Since the report has been published the Town Council has been working with a consortium of agencies to secure funding to enhance the river corridor.
The council are organising a river working group to update the community on these new developments and get your ideas on how we implement improvements.
There is a free workshop taking place at the Carnegie in Thetford on 7th February, 10am – 12noon. This event will have two separate parts – in Part One Nick Dickson from the National Lottery Heritage Fund supported Brecks Fen Edge and Rivers Landscape Partnership will explain what this exciting new project will be able to do towards understanding, revealing, celebrating and protecting the lost heritage of the Brecks’ Fen Edge & Rivers. Attendees will also be able to discuss opportunities to get help with funding, training and volunteer recruitment..
In Part Two there will be the chance for everyone to everyone to discuss issues affecting the town’s rivers and put forward their suggestions for improvements.
Anyone is welcome to attend the event, and there is no need to book.
