A quick and easy method to contact the relevant authority/department for issues across a range of council services in Thetford.
We’re pleased to inform you that the cemetery is now part of the Norfolk Wildlife Churchyard Conservation scheme.
This has come in the form of an array of different projects, and the council taking a lead role in making changes to benefit the flora and fauna of the site, as well as helping the local resident wildlife.
The projects involved have included installing Bird & Bat boxes with local children, as well as also the installation of bird feeders, hedgehog houses and bird tables. We are also working with local schools to assist in the creation of wildflower meadows, the installation of new hedges and tree planting.
Over 97% of wildflower meadows have been lost since the 1930s, so every fragment is precious for our threatened insects: over 75% of the UK’s butterfly species have declined in the last 40 years. We will continue to maintain pathways throughout the cemetery all year round, and we hope that visitors to this cemetery will be able to appreciate seeing beautiful flowers such as the tiny purple common storksbill, or the large white blooms of ox-eye daisy, even if coming here for a somber occasion.
