The Following is an extract from the minutes from The Full Council meeting on 22nd February 2022, with regards to agenda item no: 778/21 – The Future of the Market Place Consultation 2022: 

“RESOLVED: That Thetford Town Council vote for option 3 with the marketplace becoming a pedestrian area with the provision that the disabled parking spaces being moved to the roads adjacent the marketplace.  

There followed a vote: 

• For the proposal 11 votes. 
• Against 4 votes. 
• Abstained 1 vote. 

The motion was carried. “

The Market Place has now become a pedestrianised area, as per the result of the public consultation.

Thetford Town Council is in ongoing discussions with Norfolk County Council about the relocation of the disabled parking bays, this requires a new Traffic Regulation Order, which will require a public consultation as part of the process. The process is ongoing and can take up to 12-18 months.
