June 2024
Teams from Thetford Town Council, met with the Breckland Street Wardens and the local Dog Warden, to discuss incidents of anti-social behaviour on Barnham Cross Common this month.
The teams will be out on patrol, to monitor the grazed areas of land, alongside some local security firms and the Rural Crimes Officers, as part of the partnership work between the council’s and other services in the town.
In recent weeks, there have been several reports of small fires, fence lines being cut, and dogs not being kept on lead and under control around the livestock.
The grazing of the land was introduced as a natural means to manage the plant life in the area, which is a protected Site of Special Scientific Interest, in a sustainable way that is mindful of the conservation and helps to enhance the biodiversity of the land.
The teams will be engaging with members of the public to explain the reasoning behind the grazing on the sites and will be monitoring that all rules and regulations are being adhered to, whilst ensuring the safety of the animals and continued enjoyment by residents.
