Last month, our Heritage and Events Deputy Manager Katie took part in an interview alongside the Ancient House Museum to tell the story of Dr Allan Minns, Britain’s First Black Mayor.
Allan Minns was twice elected the Mayor of Thetford, between 1904 and 1906, serving as a councillor for more than 10 years.
As part of our Education packs, the team at Thetford Town Council share the stories of Dr Allan Minns, and other past Mayors.
With exhibitions, workshops and talks about his life and his family also available from the team at The Ancient House Museum.
Both teams work to share the history of Thetford with the town.
As such an important part of Thetford’s Civic Heritage, it is great to contribute to an article to help share his story.
